 | Social Impact & Special Achievements | | | Ölmühle Solling GmbH trades in high quality, organic virgin coconut oil, produced in Sri Lanka. Since 2008, Ölmühle Solling GmbH purchases such oil also in FairTrade quality (‘Fair for Life – Social FairTrade certified by IMO’). This oil originates from the producer Serendipol in Sri Lanka, with whom Ölmühle Solling GmbH has a long-standing relationship. Serendipol organic fairtrade project obtains coconuts from organic small and medium size estates in Sri Lanka. The project envisages training and including more genuine smallholder farmers in future. As the typical coconut growers in Sri Lanka are not marginalized smallholders, the focus of the operation’s FairTrade activities are the workers in the oil mill and social community projects for the farmers’ and workers’ communities (additional support for the most marginalized social groups in the production chain, e.g. casual agricultural workers, training, health care, environmental education). Serendipol is also active in promoting good labour and FairTrade practices and organic farming in Sri Lanka.
