Social Impact
Social Impact & Special AchievementsGuayaki has started in 2004 with preparation and support of two producers for organic mate production. Since 2005 mate is bought from producers at a minimum of 50% to 100% higher price than for conventional mate. The price is fixed in advance in mutual agreement among producers and Guayaki and in accordance with the annual working plan. Guayaki provides very good extension and capacity building for producers and temporary harvest workers. Around 60 workers are contracted by Guayaki in the harvest season. These workers do all have legal contracts and receive all social benefits according to Argentine legislation. They receive up to 30% higher wages than workers on comparable mate farms in the same region. In the regional office of Guayaki in Buenos Aires permanent office staff members receive higher salaries than average and all social benefits. Guayaki pays high attention to environmental protection and sustainable resource management.
