Social Impact
Social Impact & Special AchievementsThe Earthoil India (EOI) project allows several hundred poor small farmers in two areas to sell their mint production for a guaranteed significantly higher price. Prices are very transparently and openly negotiated with farmers. Farmers can get free inputs for organic production and receive sound training. All interviewed farmers and family members stated that the share of income from the mentha project is already significant. The social and fair-trade policy is well developed by EOI and in written form included in the Quality Manual. The farmer groups are in the setting-up phase with regular meetings and are involved in the project related discussions. For the administration of the fair-trade premium it is planned to set up a gremium consisting of the EOI management, farmer representatives and possibly local NGO representatives. The project provides a very important and highly welcomed income opportunity in a traditional mint growing, very poor rural area. The EOI staff is highly motivated to support the further development of the project.
Use of FairTrade PremiumPremium has been paid already on a separate bank account but has not been used yet.
